Mikkal Herberg is Director of the Asian Energy Security Program at The National
Bureau of Asian Research (NBR) in Seattle, Washington. NBR is a non-partisan research
institution devoted to advanced research on U.S. policy in Asia. Prior to working
at NBR, Herberg spent 20 years working in various Strategic Planning roles for ARCO.
From 1997-2000, he was ARCO’s esteemed Director for Global Energy and Economics
and also held positions including Director of Portfolio Risk Manager and Director
for Emerging Markets. Following BP’s acquisition of ARCO, in 2000 Herberg became
the Director of the Asia-Pacific Energy and Environment Program at the Graduate
School of International Relations and Pacific Studies at the University of California,
San Diego.
In addition to his work in worldwide energy and risk analysis, Herberg is also a
frequent speaker to the energy industry and U.S. government, most recently including
the U.S. Senate Foreign Relations Committee, National Intelligence Council, and
APEC Energy Research Centre (Tokyo), among many others.
